Since the start of his career, famed actor and environmentalist, Leonardo DiCaprio has managed to accumulate box office hits time and time again. Looking at DiCaprio’s movie catalog, one would quickly find them impressive to say the least. Well-known movies such as, “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” “Titanic,” “The Aviator,” “Blood Diamonds,” “Django Unchained,” and most recently, “The Wolf of Wall Street,” have many movie-goers screaming, “Leo deserves an Oscar!” to the Academy. To the delight of those faithful DiCaprio fans, there is promising news that has quickly spread throughout the mass media.
According to the Leonardo DiCaprio website and many other entertainment news outlets, the Oscar-nominee is set to play Hugh Glass in “The Revenant” later this fall. “The Revenant” was shot only in the natural light of the Canadian wilderness by Academy Award winning director, Alejandro Inarritu (“Birdman”). The film closely follows the Michael Punke novel, “The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge,” which is a true story about an American fur trapper and frontiersman named Hugh Glass. In 1823, Glass is left for dead in the wilderness by his comrades after being mauled by a grizzly bear, but he then uses revenge as a means for survival.
Viewers can be sure to witness a gritty film about a man that sets out on a vengeful journey that leads to many dangerous encounters with animals and even the Natives of the American West. Critics are already beginning to say that the “The Revenant,” which also stars Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson, and Will Poulter, could be DiCaprio’s first Academy Award winning performance of his career.
“Period wilderness drama ‘The Revenant’ may be the film that finally wins Leonardo DiCaprio an Oscar,” said Ben Falk, a writer for Yahoo! News.
Whether Leonardo DiCaprio finally wins that “Best Actor” award that he deserves from the Academy or not, no one will be able to deny the fact that he is an extremely talented actor with one of the most watchable catalogs in the filming industry.
“The Revenant” is set to release limitedly on December 25, 2015, and world-wide January 8, 2016.
